Meeks Bay Campground (which is separate from Meeks Bay Resort, managed by the Washoe Tribe) is located on the West Shore between Bliss and Sugar Pine state parks and has campsites that are a short walk to a sandy beach.įallen Leaf Lake is another popular campground, but it’s much bigger than some of the others with more than 200 campsites available. The Forest Service operates a handful of campgrounds around the Basin that are a degree lesser known. If you can’t find a campsite at one of those state parks, there are still plenty of options to go camping in Tahoe. (A recent partnership lets you see if campsites at Bliss and Sugar Pine are available on HipCamp, but you still have to make the reservation through State Parks.) Both campgrounds are nestled beneath towering pines, and some of the most prized sites at Bliss give campers a taste of lakefront living. Bliss State Park or Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park on the West Shore, then you got lucky. In the Tahoe Basin, state park campgrounds are some of the more well-known and popular places to sleep under the stars. You still have to make the reservation yourself. When something opens up for the dates you’ve specified, they’ll let you know. The easier way is to find online tools like CampNab that scan camping websites for cancellations. The hard way is to keep your browser open to the dates you’re looking for and hit refresh on the regular. You can look for cancellations the hard way or the easy way. Making plans six months out is always a bit of a gamble.
